Heal My Heart Campaign

Heart worm disease in dogs is a serious and potentially life threatening illness. It only takes one mosquito bite to infect your dog. Mosquitoes transmit larvae from heart worm positive dogs to healthy dogs.  Heart worms live in the hearts of infected dogs. If left untreated, heart worms cause serious complications that damage the heart and lungs and can be fatal.  All dogs are at risk for heart worm disease no matter where they live (unless they are receiving heart worm preventative on a regular basis).  Once infected with heart worms, treatment can be very expensive.

What is Heal My Heart?

Did you know that one-third of the dogs at MCAS are heart worm positive?  Through the Friends of Manatee County Animal Services “ Heal My Heart” campaign, we make sure that every heart worm positive dog at MCAS receives treatment while in the shelter, while in foster, or after they have been adopted.  FoMCAS was very proud to be able to fund the treatment of ten heart worm positive dogs that are currently residing at MCAS under the Heartworm Hotel.  The “Heal My Heart” campaign is about educating people about heart worms, providing the funds to treat the disease to ensure these dogs can live long healthy lives, and find the loving homes they deserve.

Your generous donation to “ Heal my Heart “ will help with the treatment of heart worm positive MCAS dogs in need.  They thank you from the bottoms of their HEARTs…
